A Reflexology treatment

Clients present with varying problems from stress to autoimmune conditions. All see amazing results with regular reflexology treatments, which also has the added benefit for those who are self-conscious about undressing or have reduced mobility, as only shoes and socks need to be removed. Medical trials have shown that Reflexology reduces pain, stress and encourages relaxation. It can also improve circulation throughout the body, as the feet are a reflection of the body.

What happens in a Reflexology consultation?
I will take a brief medical history. You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes in order to make your feet available for treatment. I will wash my hands thoroughly to ensure a proper hygiene protocol. While lying on the treatment couch I will wipe your feet with wet wipes in order to remove any sweat, creams or natural oils produced by the skin. Please be aware that wet wipes can feel slightly cold.

Once reclined on the treatment couch I will apply a light cream to your feet unless you request not to have this. The lighting will be turned down and soothing music will be played. This is to create a relaxing atmosphere.

The level of pressure applied to your feet is variable depending on your medical history. For example, a client with fibromyalgia will have a very light pressure applied to their feet, as they are already susceptible to pain. Reflexology uses the fingers and thumbs to apply pressure to the feet. Practitioners work through systems of the body e.g. the nervous system, the digestive system, urinary system, respiratory system, etc.

Does it hurt?
What feels like crystals to a Reflexologist can accumulate in various parts of the foot where there are blockages in the body. I will work to break up these areas during the treatment. If you experience discomfort I will hold the area until it dissipates. The next time I go over this area, any discomfort should have either disappeared or be less painful.

The whole process takes around 45 – 55 minutes. At the end of the treatment you should feel more relaxed.

Please call to speak to me if you are unsure how either of these treatments can help to manage your symptoms.
